Community Broadcasters

Our first Arrow was shot into the air on the 2nd of March 1986. Jan McLaren directed this initial volley, a multi-pronged flurry of sharp-tipped satire, finely-fletched frankness, keenly-aimed commentary, and sweetly-flighted melody. Okay – metaphor over now!

A true Access station from the word GO, Arrow presented programmes on organics, poetry, local news and issues, storytelling and cats; and represented groups as diverse as the Rape Crisis Centre, Trade Aid, the Library, Film Society and local Schools.

With the support of national and local gZodiac bodies and sponsors, Arrow has expanded its range of programmes and hours of broadcasting (from an initial 3 hours a week to the current non-stop operation). Broadcasters (and managers) have come and gone, but the spirit of community access broadcasting has been faithfully maintained. Arrow FM is dedicated to providing a wide range of minority programmes to the diverse peoples of Wairarapa.
